Summer Art Therapy Group
What to expect
An art therapy group is very similar to a traditional psychotherapy group, where multiple clients come to share their concerns and problems together with a talk therapist, however with an art therapy group you have a chance to do this using art materials. It is lead by a registered art therapist and combines both art making and psychotherapy. There is no requirement for clients to be familiar with art making or art materials because the focus is on the creative process itself and not the finished product.
Art Therapy Group V Open Studio Group…
There are two types of art therapy groups that historically have been available for clients. The traditional art therapy group is a closed group, where a set number of clients register and attend a specific duration of the group, engaging in a specific topic of the group with specific art therapy interventions. No new comers are allowed, hence “closed” group. In an open art studio group, the group often changes, some clients come and go and some attend all the time. The group is “open” and ever changing with newcomers. The focus is more on the creative expression and experiment with art materials rather than a specific agenda.
What to expect in our Open Studio…
We are a bit of a hybrid, although it is an open group and anyone can register for one or all dates, we will also have broad mental health and wellness topics as intentions for each time we meet. Some of these topics include self-care, mindfulness, and expression of emotions while utilizing art materials.
